Band Q&A – Telltale

Today we have Telltale from Richmond, Virginia, USA! Telltale are composed of;

  • Josh Carter – Vocals
  • Bryce Marshall – Guitar
  • Tim Fogg – Bass
  • Travis Slack – Drums

1) Who are your top 3 influences?

Collectively we listen to all sorts of stuff so it ranges and heavily varies from person to person, but;

  1. Fall Out Boy
  2. A Day To Remember
  3. Attack Attack

2) How did you get your band name?

We got the name after the short story ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ by Edgar Allan Poe. He’s a native to Virginia and we wanted to kind of pay homage to other artists from our home.

3) How did you all meet?

We all met over the years in the Richmond music scene. When our previous projects came to a close we all got together and started Telltale.

4) What is your song writing process?

We’re generally a pretty collaborative band. Someone will come up with a melody or riff and we’ll all build off of it together.

5) Plans for a year from now?

We’re going to be doing a lot of touring to support this new release of ‘Timeless Youth’. At the moment that is just the U.S and Canada, but who knows what opportunities may arise?

6) First gig experience?

Our first big tour as Telltale was with ‘Settle Your Scores’ back in the spring of 2018. It was mainly the east coast and a bit of Midwest. Those dudes became really good friends of ours.

7) Biggest challenge?

Anyone in a touring band will likely give you this answer but adjusting to life on the road can be hard. Finding your daily routines and ways to eat healthy can be difficult. Top it off with simply being away from everything at home and you’re in for a challenge. But we wouldn’t trade it, we even wrote a song about it you know?

8) Your dream tour to star on?

Would love to tour with some of the bands we all grew up listening to as well as some of our current favorites. Maybe Led Zeppelin, Counterparts, A Day To Remember, Cheap Trick on a run together. It’s out there but would be cool to see all of them together.

9) Favourite thing about performing?

Getting to share our music in the most direct way possible. Yeah it’s cool to listen digitally but when we play live we get to really showcase ourselves and let people know what ‘Telltale’ is all about.

10) Favourite song to play live?

We love playing ‘Rose’ the most. It has a lot of dynamic changes and you can really vibe with the flow of the song.

11) What inspired your most recent songs?

The entire album (Timeless Youth) was inspired by growing up. Events we experienced and how we saw ended relationships, passing of loved ones and such differently, from the general idea of them.

12) What do you do when you’re not musically involved?

When we’re home from tour I (Bryce) work at a sandwich shop, watch a bunch of Disney and horror movies and try and catch up on aspects of life that I missed when I was gone.

13) What gear do you use?

Bryce plays an Ernie Ball stingray. That runs through to his Kemper and into an orange 212 cabinet. With the Kemper he profiles the same amps that we used on the record. Tim plays an Ernie ball as well into an Orange OB300. Travis plays a Tama.

14) In your opinion, what’s your best song?

‘Rose’ cause it really shows the path we’re trying to take our sound.

15) Who has the worst dress sense?

Ehh I don’t think any of us dress that bad. We all kinda have our own style and vibe. But that’s fairly subjective and I’m sure someone out there thinks one of us dresses kind of odd.

16) Funniest show story?

We were playing down in Florida and people started swing dancing and line dancing to our set. The breakdown of ‘Timeless Youth’ hit and normally people mosh but this crowd had a different way to get rowdy…

17) Pizza! What do you all have?

We’re pretty into buffalo or barbecue chicken pizza but honestly we prefer getting CookOut or Taco Bell.

18) Who has the worst tattoo?

Tim. He has none.

19) Most annoying member?

Everyone’s got their moments. We get along fairly well overall.

20) Fast forward and you’re all millionaires. What do you do with the money?

Invest in space travel and Disney.
