Overthinker are a quartet based in Orlando, Florida! Overthinker are;
- Tony Murphy – Guitar/Vocals
- Eric Snow – Lead Guitar/Vocals
- Glen Ramirez – Bass/Vocals
- Will Rion – Drums
1) Who are your top 3 influences?
- The Dangerous Summer
- The Starting Line
2) How did you get your band name?
So we actually used be known as ‘The Year I Disappear’, but with new member changes and a whole new sound we decided to change up the name! ‘Overthinker’ was something we thought came across as catchy and when we realised “oh yeah we all overthink everything” it kind of just fell into place.
3) How did you all meet?
Since Glen, Will, and I (Eric) are from South Florida we met through the music scene down there a long time ago, Tony moved to Florida a few years ago and met Glen and we all kind of just crossed paths enough times to decide to bring together a really cool band.
4) What is your song writing process?
We all write by ourselves to certain extents, but what’s usually done is there’s a solid concrete idea that we’ve all agreed upon and then Eric and Tony go together and write all the lead guitar parts that work with it, and just write and rewrite until we’re happy with the product.
5) Plans for a year from now?
Have 3-4 more tours under our belt, have a new record out, and just get more people to hear the music we believe in so much!
6) First gig experience?
Our first show as Overthinker was actually a kick-off show in August with Chaser and Makeshift! We had a lot of friends come to the show and we had a ton of fun showing off our new stuff!
7) Biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge we’ve had so far as a band is getting out of our own way and removing negativity when it came to certain aspects of the band itself!
8) Your dream tour to star on?
Foo Fighters, for sure, would be absolutely bonkers!
9) Favourite thing about performing?
Definitely crowd interactions and just being able to feel the actual physical release from playing.
10) Favourite song to play live?
‘High Road’ for sure, there’s a lot of really cool leads Eric plays in that song and we all just get to rock’n’roll for 3 and a half minutes.
11) What inspired your recent songs?
A lot of our songs revolve around self-reflection and kind of realising that you’re being in your own way. So the recent ones we’ve been working on have been looking at that from a different light, and getting out of our own heads.
12) What do you do when you’re not musically involved?
You can find us usually working when we’re home and we’re all BIG on super smash bros. Glen and Eric specifically are starting to get into playing competitively and it’s a very interesting culture shock compared to the music scene!
13) What gear do you use?
- Will: Custom DW Collectors series kit, heavy-k cymbal set, and a Ludwig supralite 8×14 Snare.
- Eric: Reverend Double Agent OG, Vox AC30C2.
- Tony: Fender Stratocaster, Fender SuperSonic 60W combo Glen: Fender P-Bass.
14) In your opinion, what’s your best song?
(Eric) I’ll take this. ‘Star Lord Man, Legendary Outlaw’. That song doesn’t get enough love!!!
15) Who has the worst dress sense?
Definitely Eric, he usually just wears the same jeans cuffed with some band shirt he’s owned from years or wresting merch. Glen is the best dressed guy in this band without a doubt.
16) Funniest show story?
Okay so the last show on the tour we just got back from was in Elizabeth, NJ at a bar, the promoter was super incredible and kind and let us hop on a show last minute! It was a straight up metal show, and I’m not talking like metalcore, this was literally like Five Finger Death Punch, us and makeshift opened the show and like they were really good it was just so funny how quickly the energy of the show changed.
17) Pizza! What do you have?
Glen and Tony would get a vegan one considering they’re vegan, Eric’s a straight up cheese kind of man. We don’t really eat pizza too often surprisingly enough.
18) Who has the worst tattoo?
Eric has a funny little Florida tattoo he got when he was 18, it’s one of those wow that’s bad but can’t cover it up kind of tattoo, you know?
19) Most annoying member?
When Will and Eric are in tour mode it’s the adventures of ‘Bill and Snow’ so we’re giving it to them to be the joint most annoying members, especially on the road.
20) Fast forward and you’re millionaires. What do you do with the money?
we’d immediately give our parents a bunch of money, sell our cars and buy new ones, buy some new gear, and take HUGE vacations.
