Band Q&A – Six Impossible Things

We spoke to ‘Six Impossible Things’. The duo out of Lodi, Italy consist of;

  • Nicole Fodritto – Vocals/Keys
  • Lorenzo Di Girolamo – Vocals/Guitar

1) Who are your top 3 influences?

  1. Julien Baker
  2. American Football
  3. Turnover

2) How did you get your band name?

The name was taken from an ‘Alice In Wonderland’ quote: “When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast”. We are both big fans of Lewis Carrol so we decided to opt for Six Impossible Things.

3) How did you meet?

The underground local scene here in Italy is really small, so everyone knows each other. We met thanks to our previous bands basically.

4) What is your song writing process?

For this last EP, ‘I Tried To Run Away From Here’, Lorenzo wrote the most of the music and lyrics in his bedroom, except for one song, ‘Diary’, written by Nicole. We always start writing songs with an acoustic guitar, only with chords and lyrics, and then we start developing everything together in our practice space or doing demos at home, this helps us to have a more clear idea of how the song will sound like.

5) What are your plans for a year from now?

We just released this new EP and we want to tour as much as we can, our main goal at the moment is to play Europe (outside of Italy) and the UK. Regarding new music we never stop writing, we’ll release something new when we’ll be totally happy with our new material.

6) First gig experience?

Probably 2015, but our first official show was the release of our first album ‘we are all mad here’ on April 7th 2017. It was the only full band show we did as Six Impossible Things. The idea born as a joke with some of our friends who play in other bands from our hometown’s scene. Then we started practicing and we actually played the release show together, we finally found an opportunity to play a show with this guys and it was totally crazy.

7) Biggest challenge so far?

Writing this last record probably. We’ve worked a lot on these songs, and we didn’t book the recording studio until we were completely happy with them. But I think the main challenge is always to keep the band going.

8) Favourite thing about performing?

The whole thing of being on tour is the best thing about being in a band. Travelling and seeing places you never be able to see, meet new people and experience new things. We love to play shows too, obviously.

9) Favourite song to play live?

‘Jackson’. The first time we played it live it was in Milan, at the release show of our new EP ‘I Tried To Run Away From Here’. The song was released less then 24 hours before and everyone was singing the chorus. It was mind blowing!

10) What inspired these recent songs?

We always talk about our personal experiences in the lyrics of our songs. So basically every record represents a specific period of our lives.

11) What do you do when you’re not musically involved?

Lorenzo works for a music publishing company while Nicole works as an employee for an Italian company that sell zootechnical products in every part of Italy.

12) Funniest show story?

There’s a lot of stories regarding the shows we played. At the moment, I’m thinking about this time after a show, we slept in a tent in front of a lake. The funny party is: there was no heat and we were freezing but we had some beers so we enjoyed the night and the landscape was amazing!

13) Pizza! What do you have?

Pepperoni for Nicole, mozzarella, bacon and zucchini (without tomato sauce) for Lorenzo.

14) Most annoying member?

Both, but Lorenzo is the worst ‘cause he’s actually always late.

15) Who has the worst tattoo?

Lorenzo probably. he started getting tattooed by a friend of ours back when he started doing it. Now he’s great but back then he wasn’t. Love all of our tattoos anyway.

16) Fast forward and you’re millionaires. What do you do with the money?

The first thing would be to build a studio for ourselves, where we can practice, write and record. With the rest we would do charity, don’t care that much about money.
