Band Q&A – Looking For It

Looking For It are based in Lisbon, Portugal! Their quintet consists of;

  • José Trindade – Vocals
  • Miguel Barrera – Guitar
  • Fábio Fiúza – Guitar
  • Miguel Brites – Bass
  • André Gouveia – Drums

1) Who are your top 3 influences?

  1. Blink-182
  2. Sum 41
  3. New Found Glory

2) How did you get your band name?

We ended up choosing ‘Looking For It’ as it was the most meaningful one since we are always looking for something. Looking for happiness, making our dreams come true, the perfect song. This name is timeless which means that we’ll always be looking for something, aiming for more and more and more!

3) How did you all meet?

That’s fun to explain. Some of us met through school, some are neighbors, some met on a punk rock concert and some in band auditions.

4) What is your song writing process?

It’s easier to look at it in 3 steps. Most of our songs come from spontaneous ideas of vocals or riffs. Usually, this is the trigger for part 2 – creating an underlying structure for the song. Afterwards, we think of lyrics, which are usually the last step.

5) What are your plans for a year from now?

Touring, releasing our first album, making a bunch of new friends in the process, since that’s what music should be about.

6) First gig experience?

Our debut was a moment that we all remember dearly, although we were really, really nervous. Also only 3 members were there as full time. We drove 60 kms shaking. It was far from perfect but we enjoyed it a lot.

7) Biggest challenge?

Managing to have any sort of visibility in our county, mainly due to the small punk scene. Given that we’re a punk band in a small country as Portugal, it’s hard to have any sort of visibility. We hope to push out to the UK, USA, Canada and worldwide really!

8) Favourite thing about performing?

The best thing about performing live is the audience’s reaction. It gets us every time.

9) Favourite song to perform live?

“Back In Time” is the most preferred and energetic among all members so we’re going with this one.

10) What inspired your recent songs?

We’ve been broadening horizons inside punk rock with some of our latest works – a Ska-beat song about our punk origins and influences; a “green dayish” fast punk rock song about our youth; and a longer, nostalgic pop punk song with life lessons for adulthood.

11) What do you do when you’re not musically involved?

An unreleased song: back in time because it’s the most melodic and well constructed song, yet simple, that we have. We love playing it and we love listening to it. We basically fangirl about this song.

12) Who has the worst dress sense?

We’ll have to say Miguel Barrera (Guitarist). It’s not that he dresses bad, he’s just the most basic member when it comes to fashion.

13) Funniest show story?

It’s a random story. It happened in March 2016 before a concert in Lisbon. As we were climbing the stairs to let our gear in the upper floor of the venue, one of us mentioned the name of a Portuguese band: Albert Fish. As soon as André (drummer) replied with those two words, he fell hilariously to the floor. He faceplanted the stairs while carrying a bunch of stuff upstairs, almost breaking his teeth. We laughed intensively at that moment, and still do whenever they are mentioned.

14) Pizza! What do you have?

Well, some like the classic cheese and ham, some like the Hawaiian Pizza and others some with pepperoni. We are all different!

15) Most annoying member?

We think it’s a tie between José and André. José is annoyingly hyper most of the times and André is so, incredibly slow responsive that we get mad just having a normal conversation with him. He’s like the sloth from Zootopia in real life.

16) Fast forward and you’re millionaires. What do you do with the money?

We’d like to hopefully one day contribute and help our local scene, not only by promoting shows but also by giving new bands opportunities to display their talent!
