Band Q&A – For The Legion

We spoke to ‘For The Legion’ who are a pop-punk band from Sweden! Their members consist of;

  • Ed Lindgren – Vocals/Guitar
  • Johan Schager Laas – Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals
  • Marcus Birgersson – Bass
  • Hjalle Lindgren – Drums

1. Who are your top 3 influences?

  1. Four Year Strong
  2. Neck Deep
  3. Seaway

2. How did you get your band name?

To us, ‘The Legion’ is us, our family, friends and fans. So when we write music and perform it on stage, we do it for the legion, therefore the name.

3. How did you all meet?

We have known each other nearly all our lives. Ed and Hjalle are brothers and we all met in first grade of school. We have been best friends ever since, growing up together in the same neighbourhood and having gone through tough stages in life.

4. What is your song writing process?

Basically it all starts with a single idea, most often a guitar riff or melody hymn. Then we take it from there. Sometimes we start from the end of a song and then let our creativity do the work.

5. What are your plans for a year from now?

We are hoping to expand our name and keep spreading our music to reach as many pop-punk enthusiasts as possible! This coming year we will continue to write new music and hopefully enter the studio again.

6. First gig experience?

One of our first gigs was in a barn on the countryside. We played obscure Green Day covers for 30 minutes and seized the opportunity to fulfil our dreams by doing as many stage dives as possible. We probably sucked but we had a blast anyway!

7. Biggest challenge so far?

It’s hard to pick one single thing out but a few years ago our rehearsal studio got flooded. It was during rehearsal and we had to flee through a small window to avoid the water. It was quite a challenge to actually jam ourselves through it…

8. Favourite thing about performing?

Having the crowd sing along to our songs is the best thing ever! You can’t compare that to anything.

9. Favourite song to perform live?

‘Pick Me Up (hey you)’ because of the high energy and Johan’s face melting solo. We also enjoy playing ‘Thin Air’ because it has been growing to a fan favourite.

10. What inspired your recent songs?

The new EP ‘Down The Path’ presents new themes such as global warming and parenthood. The album is about personal change but also witnessing how the world is changing around us.

11. What do you all do when you’re not musically involved?

We all have responsible full find jobs and families, who are the most supportive people you can imagine.

12. In your opinion, what’s your best song?

Tough one! We’re fond of ‘Hello Out There’ from the new release we’d have to say ‘We Want You To Panic’.

13. Who has the worst dress sense and why?

It’s hard to tell, we all have our flaws. You can tell none of us are fashion victims. Johan used to wear these awful linen shorts that his girlfriend threw out and we all thanked her!

14. Funniest show story?

One time during a show, a broken cord caught fire on stage and we had to quit in the middle of the show and leave in a hurry. The funny part was that the only comment we got from the show booker afterwards that it was a bummer not many people had turned up.

15. Pizza! What topping do you all have?

It’s really big in Sweden to have kebab meat on pizza. That’s Marcus’ favourite topping. Ed is nowadays a dad and enjoys ‘Dad pizza’, salami, onion and some hot sauce. Johan and Hjalle are more vegetable orientated.

16. Most annoying member?

With their lousy jokes, it’s a tie of Hjalle and Marcus.

17. Who has the worst tattoo?

The tattoos we have are all rad! Ed has a Four Year Strong tattoo on his calf. Hjalle has a millencolin logo on his shoulder.

18. Fast forward and you’re millionaires. What do you do with the money?

First of all, donate to clear up plastic from the oceans. It’s painful to see what they’ve done to our planet. Secondly, buy a big house together on the countryside for our families and include a huge recording studio, for sure.
