Concert Review – The Escape Artist

Every Tuesday night The Polar Bear (Hull, UK) put on a free gig, on the 16th July they had some hardcore bands, so I popped myself down there…

The night opened with ‘Yeti Hunter’ (Hull, UK). The Yeti’s really had a sound much similar to ‘Royal Blood’. In their 30 minute set they gained a great number of fans, with hard hitting riffs and instrumentals you could just nod your head and tap your feet to, it was hard not to fall in love on spot. Guitarist and lead vocalist, Lee Cass headed on into the crowd as he could feel the atmosphere building and building. Yeti Hunter have just finished recording an album, I’d recommend checking out when it’s released!

Following up was ‘Cutting Teeth’ an amazing upcoming 4 piece from Leeds. Much more hardcore, sounding like Lotus Eater, Palm Reader and any other great band in the scene. Hard-hitting raw vocals within bone-crunching riffs got the crowd moshing worse than a Knocked Loose pit. The vocalist was madly pumped and enticed the crowd, even the guitarist jumped into it to make it more intimate. Having just come off a short tour with ‘The City Is Ours’ and ‘Fangs’ we are expecting more shows, given that they will be releasing more content soon…

Headliners ‘The Escape Artist’ ended the show on an energetic high. Another act from Hull, these guys knew how to rock! A cocktail of piercing vocals, Ashley Mather (front-man) racing around stage, hair-standing riffs and an insane light show really topped this night off. The 5 piece performed their newest single ‘words’ and also showed off tracks that haven’t even been released yet. Both slow and fast. They will be headlining this years Humber Street Sesh and I’d really recommend going to see them!

All in all it was an amazing night with an amazing atmosphere, and I cannot recommend any of these bands enough!
