We spoke to Years Off My Life, a hardcore band hailing from Florida!
1. Who are your top 3 influences?
- The Ghost Inside
2. What can we expect from your new EP? Will we have another release soon?
Our EP is a blend of all things melodic and post hardcore. We at our roots are a hardcore band but you can expect ambience mixed with a lot of heavy. We’ve definitely got some cool things in the works and it won’t be too long before fans can expect to hear some newer things live.
3. How did you meet?
Kaelan and Bailey met in their first class at Full Sail but the band didn’t even form until 2 years later. Kaelan met Caleb online and met Isaac at a school event. We all met El through mutual friends.
4. What is your song-writing process?
Kaelan writes the skeletons that become our songs musically. Bailey and Kaelan both write lyrics and we all ad feedback on everything.
5. What do you hope to have achieved a year from now?
Honestly consistently touring and being able to do music full time is a dream for all of us. If that can happen in a year that would be crazy. But hopefully just at least touring a lot. We all just love playing shows.
6. What was ‘YOML’ first gig experience like?
The show itself went pretty well. Isaac was actually a fill in for bass that night because our original bassist had a different show already booked. We actually got rear ended on the way to the show which comparatively made the actual gig a lot less stressful.
7. What has been your biggest challenge?
Truthfully it’s just been life that gets in the way. We are all students and/or have full time jobs so things can be stressful when it comes to scheduling conflicts.
8. What is your favourite thing about performing?
We all just love doing it. We think recently seeing people knowing the words to our songs is something super surreal and we’ve been fortunate enough to build a great fanbase with great crowd interaction every show.
9. Where would you most like to tour?
Kaelan and Isaac would really love to play in Philly just because they love the people and the hardcore scene in that area. Other than that, everywhere is an opportunity for new fans and new friends so we’re just looking forward to getting on the road in general.
10. What is inspiring your upcoming songs?
Our new direction is actually a bit heavier. To compare it sounds more like Limbs, Oh Sleeper and super early Beartooth.
11. What do you do when you’re not musically involved?
Kaelan and Isaac are students at Full Sail. Bailey works on house repair. Caleb works in landscaping and El is starting school soon.
12. In your opinion, what’s your best song?
We all have different answers but I think it’s between In Motion and Icarus. We just love the flow of those a lot and they always guarantee a good pit.
13. Who has the worst dress sense?
We guess either Caleb or Bailey but it’s hard to say, none of us are ever too concerned with how we look as much as how we play.
14. What’s your funniest show story?
Oh first show, Kaelan knocked his amp off his cab on accident and more recently Isaac broke a string during our intro and just kept going because he didn’t bring a backup.
15. Who’s the most annoying member?
Probably Kaelan because he’s probably the least laid back of any of us but that only lends to his wild stage presence.
16. Who has the worst tattoo?
Bailey’s cross which he’s described as “two popsicle sticks” is probably the worst of everyone’s tattoos.
17. Fast forward and you’re millionaires. What do you do with the money?
I think it goes without saying that we’d give back to the ones who helped us get to where we were and definitely be putting that money into things like touring and continuing to do the things we love.
