Growing Pains – Breakaway (Review)

Growing Pains are a pop punk/punk rock band from Corpus Christi Texas. The five piece includes brothers Trevor (vocals) and Brett (Guitar) Pancoast, Lando Arce (Guitar), Gabriel Bradt (Bass), and Oscar Montemayor (Drums).

On September 7th, 2018 the band released their debut EP entitled ‘Breakaway’. Tracks include singles “Set The World Off” and “This is Not Me”.

The overall sound of the album definitely gives off a hard old school pop punk vibe. While many bands classify as pop punk, they don’t always have the authentic classic sound that remind us of the early 2000’s.

Keeping with the early 2000’s vibe, checkered no lace slip on Vans, ripped skinny jeans, and band shirts is what I think of when I listen to this album. It was a nice mini flashback to what emo was when I was a kid.

I really enjoyed this album. The hard rock/punk sound got me dancing and hopping along. When I first heard of the band I wasn’t really expecting them to be as hardcore as they are and it was a really nice surprise.

If you enjoy listening to bands such as Playing Pretend, Calling All Captains, My Heart to Joy, The World Is ABeautiful Place And I’m No Longer Afraid To Die or Moving Around I highly recommend giving Growing Pains a listen. Even if you’re just a fan of old school, hardcore, pop punk or rock you will enjoy this band as well.

In addition to “Breakaway”, Growing Pains have also released a new single entitled ‘Things Change’. Both are available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
