Interview – Cheer Up Dusty

Cheer Up Dusty are from Philadelphia, USA. Their members consist of;

  • Justin Humenik – Vocals / Guitar
  • Nick Silvidio – Drums

Your EP ‘Last Year Gave Me The Business’ came out last December. What inspired the lyrics on this album?

The whole EP is based on my 2018. It was a rough year. I got fired that year, I had a mental breakdown, I had a bad relationship, the whole 9.

What can fans expect next from Cheer Up Dusty?

We have 2 singles and we plan on doing another EP after that. We’re trying to do more shows and we have a music video coming out soon for Dammit Janice Love Me. We’re stoked.

What’s the reasoning behind the album name?

Well the reason we released it on the last days on 2019 is because the title wouldn’t of made sense if we didn’t get it out then haha. It’s about 2018 and just the terrible, funny and weird year I had.

Can you tell us an interesting fact about the EP?

The whole EP was recorded at my friend Nick’s house. Which I spent so much time there, I eventually moved into and live there now.

Where did the name ‘Cheer Up Dusty’ come from?

The last band I was in called me Dustin as a joke and eventually that became Dusty. I have depression and anxiety and so it was always “cheer up dusty” during band practices.

What has been the most surreal moment of your musical careers far?

That’s tough. I played music for years as a kid until I was 19 when I had my son so I sold all my equipment and I didn’t do anything musical whatsoever for 6 or so years until all this. I would have to say the 1st Dusty show since it was my first all band performance in a decade. It was nice you know!

Who has the worst dress sense?

Haha I don’t know! I guess the JNCO jeans thing was weird. I mean I had a pair or 2. The world’s fashion sense is really skewed now I think. It’s cool!

Who’s the most annoying?

My friend Patty does a lot and our producer, Nick. All 3 of us are annoying in different ways but it levels it all out. Me and Patty will just be anxiety ridden and Nick will calm us down. So I guess it’s a tie between me and Patty haha.

Who has the worst tattoo?

Me and producer Nick have matching tattoos of cakes…those are pretty rough. I may have a worse one though but that’s for another time.

Thanks for chatting! Leave a message for the people reading…

I guess just thanks punk, rocks! for the interview and promotion. We’re just trying to be heard and get our name out and this was a fun way to do that. Also thanks to the people who have taken the time out their day to listen to my music!
