Interview – Waiver Wire

Waiver Wire are from Worcester, MA, USA! Their members consist of;

  • Josh McKelvie – Vocals/Guitar
  • Giulio Lavini – Lead Guitar
  • Jeremy Champlin – Bass
  • Dan Bauer – Drums

Who are your top 3 influences?

This one is kind of hard, as we’re all influenced by so many different things. We’re definitely influenced by blink-182 a lot. Four Year Strong was a big one for sure, what with working with Alan Day and all. Fall Out Boy has always been a big influence on my lyricism, as well.

Where did the name Waiver Wire come from?

We tossed so many names around when we started the band, and Waiver Wire was the only one none of us hated.

What inspired your songs lyrically on HYA?

The lyrics were inspired by the daily drudgery of life, unfulfilled dreams, frustration, etc.

How long did you work on the EP from start to finish?

A couple of the songs on the EP date back to when we first started the band 2 years ago. Then we spent 9 days in the studio refining them with Alan and recording.

What can fans expect next from Waiver Wire?

We’ve got a lot of things in the works. We’re going to be playing all over the place over the next few months, releasing another video, and hopefully getting back into the studio fairly soon to get some new music out.

Can you tell us an interesting fact about your ep?

One interesting thing is that while we were in the studio, Alan was receiving mixes for the new Four Year Strong record, and we got to listen to a few of them with him. We were probably one of the first people to hear their new stuff, so that was pretty cool.

What’s your own favourite song from the ep?

I love all of them, but if I had to choose, it would probably be Mass Transit. There’s a couple tidbits on that one that make it special, and it’s super fun to play.

Who has the worst dress sense?

Giulio volunteered to be the scapegoat for this one. He says he doesn’t have style, he just wears clothes.

Funniest show story?

There was one show where we were supposed to provide a door man and we couldn’t find one, so our bass player Jeremy had to work the door. We took the closest table to the door and he was on it like a hawk. It was awesome.

Who’s the most annoying member?

Our most annoying member is Giulio’s temperamental back. It’s the only one of us that doesn’t always show up.

Who has the worst tattoo?

Dan has “ID” tattooed on him from a buddy who was learning. I guess those were the only letters he knew how to do at the time.

Thanks for chatting! Leave a message for the fans…

Thanks very much for taking the time to talk with us. Thanks to the fans for sticking by us and all the support for the new EP. We’ve got big plans and lots in store for the remainder of 2020 and beyond, and we hope everyone will come along for the ride.
