Review – Catapults (If You Don’t Matter, Nothing Does)

Catapults – If You Don’t Matter, Nothing Does (Single Review)

Hailing from Oldenburg, Germany. Catapults are here to present you with their little gem of a single: ‘If You Don’t Matter, Nothing Does’. The four-piece have been playing gigs since their formation in 2017, and debut release ‘Cold Alley’ back in 2018. Only improving and maturing since then, Catapults put their hearts on their sleeves with open and honest lyrics, backed by an incredibly tight group dynamic. This alt/pop-punk four piece are set to release their full length ‘I’ll be Honest’ in March 2021, which will hopefully feature more tracks in the same vane as ‘If You Don’t Matter.’

Catapults have a musicality and overall emotion similar to the likes of The Wonder Years; fans of story-like lyricism backed with great guitar tone and raspy vocals will relish this single/band. There’s a certain excitement you get when listening to a track like this, a song with such intense hopefulness and drive, paired with its infectious catchiness.

Lead singer Joost’s voice soars “I’ll leave my fucking house even if it kills me/I’ll breathe some fresh air even if I get sick”. An intense and pounding kick/ some great fills hold up against the wall of guitars, all making for a colossal sounding track. Rounded off with a title-drop laden chorus “If you don’t matter, nothing does”, Catapults know how to write a catchy single effortlessly.

Catapults are a band you should be getting excited about, and “If You Don’t Matter, Nothing Does” just showcases all their talents with ease. If this single is anything to go by, keep an eye out for their full-length “I’ll Be Honest” set for release in March of next year for more of what Catapults have to offer.
